what speedometer gear do i use???

That only leaves the drive gear inside the tranny. If you can spin the gear on the cable and the speedo works, and the cable is fully seated in the trans, everything else is eliminated. If yours is like mine, and it should be, it's almost impossible to see the drive gear with the tranny mounted. Could always pull the driveshaft and tail housing on the tranny and check it out. If you decide to do that just as well to put on the right drive gear.
