glow plug controller installation

so i just picked up a glow plug controller for my 86 f250 idi and I have been hearing horror stories of people trying to replace these.

so im coming to the experts for advice on how to do it.

last thing i want is to strip the threads or break the controller in the block.

any suggestions on best way to get it out would be great.

thanks

I haven't had to do this yet, but I would soak the old controler's threads with PB Blaster for several days before trying to remove it. If you twist it off, the head will have to come off to repair it.

well if its the stock controller then it cant be too big a pain in the ***. i recently did mine i would suggest that you not use pb blaster because if you do then you have a lubricant with other addatives that are in it in your coolant im not sure what that could do but i can tell you that it should be a 7/8 wrench if your full controller is still there the one i pulled out was busted off and i just used a socket on a 1/2 rachet and got it out no problem but my knuckles hurt lol. if that dont work then use a cresent wrench and make sure that you get it tightened on it all the way so you dont end up rounding the nut part of it and if all else fails then find a wrench taht will fit on it and dont get too violent with it if you feel that its going to slip off
