6.9L Glow plug controller

I have a 6.9 that the glow plug controller broke off and I have to order another one because none of the parts stores around here have one. It broke with some of the threads still visible so I will be able to get the rest out. My question is will the truck still run if I just have the top part thats plugged in tied up??? yes I know I would have to give it a shot of either to get it started.

Thanks for any input

yes it will still run, i would just convert to a manual push button system...way easier than messing with the automatic controller....

Be very careful using ether. Theres still a chance the glow plugs could glow some and cause an explosion. I would make sure they have no power if you plan on using ether.

USE VERY LITTLE! Some would say none.

Will run fine is you can safely get it started...

X2 on best mod, manual glow plugs!

Or if auto plugs are a must, convert to 87+ solid state system. The controller sits at the back of the engine, under the air cleaner assembly.

What year is it??????

If it's 1985.5 or older, DO NOT USE THE BLOCK HEATER! You risk cracking the block!

Your only option would be an inline heater, one you put inline in the heater hoses.

Theres also one you can put in the lower radiator hose.

The tank type that John is talking about needs to be installed at the lowest point(or close) or it wont work. Follow the directions carefully if you get one.

If you've never used it i'd keep an eye on it for a bit, maybe look the cord over to make sure its not bare anywhere, but other wise, go ahead and plug 'er in.
