rear? squeek/chatter 98 f150

Hello,
Have some new issues with my truck as usual. I have a chattering squeek that sounds like it is coming from the back. I can hear it whenever I am in gear. It sounds when I am accelerating or clutch breaking. If I am in neutral and rolling or neutral and pushing on the gas I get no sound. So it only sounds when I am in gear. Any thoughts? I also get a single metallic click whenever I start from a stop in 1st gear right as I start.

it is a 4.2 1998 f150 manual.

I'd check the U joints first, even then just be looking at turning the shaft they can appear fine when they are really getting dried out and failing.

I would remove the drie shaft, and check the u-joints then.. grease or replace.. Then grease the spline when you slide it back into the trans.. that is the first gear click to start with.
