Project Eco-Boost Update:

I put the Semi up for sale last night around midnight, around 6:30 this morning the phone started to ring. By 11:00 am today the truck was


S O L D ! ! !

I am still pinching myself that it sold so fast.

Ok, Back on the eco-slick.

I need to find a good name for this truck project . . .

Is the frame on the 2011 bent? Just wondering if you've considered using that in it's entirety, bolt the cab and bed to it.

The frame on this truck is absolute TOAST! It was hit in rear by a SEMI that was going about 75-80mph. The box pretty much exploded from the impact.

The frame looked like a pretzel. Somehow the fuel tank survived!


Today was one of those days I did not even have a minute to look at the 11'.


The easy way would be to just drop the ecoboost into the 66 Chassis.

I really want to utilize the 2011 technology as much as I can.

The shortest frame (wheelbase) avail on a ecoboost powered truck is
145" which is approx 20" more than the long bed F100/250.

The 2011 frame is HUGE hydroformed with much added weight but soooo much more rigid. A neat thing about the 2011 is the cab mounting bolts go from the bottom! So I will not have to pull the carpet etc to remove the cab.

I do have a cab cart ready for when I can get the cab off.

A lot to think about for sure.

I did not want to take a bunch of measurements just to learn there was so much difference that it would make me change my mind. I simply bought the 2011 when It became avail, now to just shoot from the hip when issue's arise.

I got bored of bolting 352's and 427's into these trucks and wanted something a bit more challenging.


Right now its excitement and oh, what did I do at the same time. A engineer I am not. I have to get the parts in a pile and just see where they fit just like a puzzle.


It would be nice to have some help from a engineer view point but its a budget build. If this does not work out I need to be able to recoup a big portion of what has been spent. This next week I should have a clearer path on what I am doing.

I will try to post a few more pics to show what I am up against.

I had not planned on posting these pics quite yet but it will give an idea what I am starting with. Seeing as though my camera was stolen at time of pickup I only have a poor cell phone pic of as purchased.

I do have a vision what I want it all to look like but just not sure if it will all fall in place. I really hate to cut up a truck only to find it will not work.

In these pics there is a rear frame assy, along with bedsides, box floor and a tailgate. Its hard to tell what is what.

At this point whats left of the ecoboost truck is still sitting on a trailer. Hoping tomorrow I will be able to get the truck off trailer some how. With no rear axle or wheels and the front tires toast . . .

Okay, so using the complete '11 frame is not an option, since it no longer exists! That said, have you looked around at all for a '11 that's had a hard hit in the front and thus the junkyard might be willing to sell you the rear half of the frame for relatively short dollars? Let them keep the bed - that's the thing they'd normally sell for bigger money. Then you just section the modern frame back together, but at the length that you want. You also avoid any metallurgy issues that way of welding two metals of different composition and strength.

I was actually waiting to see if semi sold. Now that it has I can move to next step which would be to order a new frame in the proper length. I found one thats within a inch or so that will work. (5.0L trucks have close to proper length frame) If I remember correctly the 65-66 trucks have a 129" wheelbase,

The 5.0L 2011 trucks have one avail in 126". Ford makes the 2011 frames where each front or back stub can be replaced as an assembly. With that in mind I could move either front or back the 2" required given that the front wheel on the 65-66 appears to be 1" too far forward to be centered in wheel opening. For that reason think it would be do-able.

(The 2011 frame ends over lap into next section front and rear)

So the only real issue is the 44" width getting it to fit the narrow 65-66 rear cab opening. I will know better once the cab comes off both then just set the 65-66 cab over the 2011 chassis with engine etc still in place.

At that point if it "looks" like it will work I will pick up a readily avail frame for the 5.0L truck in 126" then simply bolt on everything from my current eco frame.

Been just too busy with other stuff the last couple days to really think about it much other than when I try to fall asleep at night! LOL

This looks like a really fun project..

The amount of knowledge that I gained by just spending a few hours with you talking trucks I bet this project will be a major success!

EcoBoost Coast to Coast & 32.28 mpg Average!

Towing a 2011 fiesta and both veh at max weight they got as high as 27.3mpg with the EcoBoosted F150.

Using only 2 tanks plus 6.1 gallons to go across america averaging 32.28 mpg with total truck weight of 7120lbs (5people on board) is nothing short of incredible.

Cannot wait to be testing my "Eco-Slick"

Cake~Walk Cab Removal

Ford sure has it down to make cab removal simple - - -__ Except for when It gets hit in back and the cab mounts move . . .

Everything is pretty much plug and play only thing a bit tougher is the new style trans cooling lines as did not have a tool and knowone in town did either so had to make a simple tool to get them off.

Cab is VERY VERY heavy compared to the 66 cab. Loaded at least 2 to 3 times the weight.

So here is the cab and chassis separated. I did notice the chassis gets very narrow in the front making it a great possibility to use the new style suspension on our slicks. No final #'s but the track width is also very close.

Twas too big to fit in shop so outside it went.

Awesome for lifting cabs on and off . . .
