Im sorry, you bought a 6.0 thinking it was a 7.3?

Someone told you it was a 7.3?(the seller?)

There were no mentions of what motor was in the truck on the ad you saw it forsale at? Opening the hood of a 7.3 VS 6.0 you can tell in a spilt second which is which.

So, I am assuming you do not have any documents of maint done to the truck? Oil changes, filters, brakes, tires...etc? Kinda sketchy.

Anyways, before you do anything, BUY a scan gauge to figure out your temps or better yet, have someone/dealer/ private business that knows 6.0's look over your truck front to back and see what they come up with...

Don't worry about a cold air intake, they are a waste of money/junk.

Don't worry about tuning the truck for more power unless its studded, no tuner is safe for a stock motor.

As far as an exhaust, go wild!

I have never bought anything but a gas before so i have no idea what to look for. i had just taken a 5 hour train ride to get there so i was a bit tired.
Excuses are excuses but i have a 6.0 now lol
the engine is VERY clean no leaks no oil any where no blow by
I have some documents of what he did like oil changes and alignments.
I am changing the fuel filter tonight
Where is the best place to get a scan gauge and what do i need to look for?

Doing headstuds is not something you do in a couple hours.

It consits of removing the heads.

When you stud a truck you replace the factory TTY(torque to yeild) bolts which are prone to streching causing head gasket problems.

You can go to autozone and have them order you a scan guage II or amazon.com

The best thing you could do is scroll thru all the threads and try to learn as much as you can.

Fuel and Oil filters. There are enough documented cases of aftermarket filter dimensions being off and causing problems. Racor makes the filters for Motorcraft, so go with either, but Racor is cheaper. I get mine at dieselfiltersonline.com

Does it have a clear title? Its hard to say if it's a good deal since you don't know much about the engine or what issues it may have.

Three things off the top of my head, and I'm also an xtreem noob..:

1. Get an OASIS report from your local Ford dealer. Bring your vin number when requesting this from the sevice dept.
2. Get a CARFAX
3. Get a Scanguage 2 and program it for Engine Oil Temperature(EOT) and also for Engine Coolant Temperature(ECT). Moniter these at the same time. When ECT gets to 190 at 65 mph for 10 or 15 minutes (fully warmed up @65mph), check your EOT. The temperature spread (delta) should not be greater than 15*F. If it is more than 15*, you may be in need of an oil cooler.

Also check your degas bottle and see what shape the antifreeze is in.. Is there any in the bottle? If so is it: Clean? Brown? In between? Gold? Green? Hopefully Red?? Is there white residue around the cap?

Does it start quickly while cold AND hot?

I noticed the year is a '03, which, to my limited knowledge, has the better EGR cooler, so you should be good there.

There are countless threads about what to look for with these 6.0 engines here on FTE. Search and read to your hearts content. And, of course, ask questions if you cant find answers after searching.

Welcome and good luck with yer new truck!

LOL yup! Scangauge shoulda came with this truck from the factory! I don't know about "better" but a 6.0 makes more power than a 7.3, and an EGR delete is not a "have to" mod. Congrats on the new truck, unless it's been mistreated I think you're gonna like it.
