hey everyone, i have a 02 f250 and i have been battling a steering problem. it seems after i turn left or right the steering wheel gets tight and sometimes want to stay in the direction i turn. more so when i turn left though. slide pins and calipers are good. today i checked the ball joints didnt feel any play, I lubed the front end and ball joints and rotated the tires. what i did find while doing that was the left front sits slightly lower than the right. I can fit my head between the wheel well on the right but i have to squeeze my head in to fit on the left side. I took it for a test drive and it seemed a little better but on the left hand turns it feels a litttle tight still. Could a bad shock cause tight steering after the turn? I noticed it happens more on rolling turn rather than a dead stop turn. could a front end alignmeant fix problems if its not a shock. thanks
Also i tried bouncing the truck and the i got about 3 bounces on the left side shock and about 2 - 2/12 on the right side.
Look at the steering stabilizer. Disconnect it and see if that helps any? It could be the problem. Your shocks should not be the cause to this. You are binding in the steering.
Over tightening the adjustment on top of the steering gearbox can cause binding. It can feel fine in the center but get tight towards either left or right lock. In that scenario the box is pretty well worn out, past the point of adjustment.
I never adjusted the steering box or had alingment since I bought it which was a year ago. Never had the problem when I bought it. It all started after the truck sat for a week. And I have been trying to narrow down what it could be ever since. Where is the steering stabilizer located on the front. The front end on these trucks are my weakness.
Thanks for the picture. Now I don't feel as stupid because I looked and there is no steering stabilizer on the front end. Is it bad not to have one on. Or could that be my problem to binding turns.
