I read the tutorial last week but didn't fix it until today. That link is not working for me today, glad I remember what I read last week!

Good link. I quit Firefox after they forced the inventor of JavaScript and co-founder of Mozilla, Brendan Eich, to resign.

After replacing a broken door cable, I chose to replace the snubbers in my driver's side window motor, using the 7/16" nuts as your link shows, ria2005. But after the job was done, there is a loud "clanking" sound when the window direction is changed. I double-stacked the nuts on the three ends of the triangular area where the motor gear sits. I smeared a small amount of moly lube on the nuts this time. It hasn't 'fixed itself' after a week, so I'll need to go back again and 'take a look'.

The motor assembly was removed again. I couldn't remember lightly greasing the nuts last time, so I cleaned them and reinstalled.

No success. The motor assembly still "clanks" noticeably whenever I switch the direction of the window. For some reason, the ss nuts aren't working this time. I intend to replace with new, plastic snubbers.

Looks like the gear box in the driver side has more wear so the nut stacking trick is not working. Makes sense....most of us drive with only one person in the cab therefore the driver side gets used more.

At least that is my two cents worth.

Hmmmm...but as I said below, the window was working fine with the Ford plastic snubbers before I replaced them with the nuts.

The truck has 78500 original miles and there was no sign that the motor had been replaced before. I was only doing this as a preventative measure while the door was (and still is) without its cover because I had to replace the broken cable. It looks to me like the passenger side snubbers failed first...they had completely disintegrated into lots of small pieces and made me think they were dried grease. The ones I just removed look good.

And, since the Ford dealer tells me that the snubbers are no longer sold separately and I'm not as sure about after market snubbers and I intend to sell the truck soon, it looks like just putting back the ones I removed may be the best solution.

One of those "If it isn't broke don't fix it" situations.
