On my 89 Bronco, the passenger window all of a sudden wont go up. I rolled it down as normal and when i went to put it up, the motor spun but it just sounded like it was slipping. I was able to get the window up by hand, and now every time it goes down like normal and just slips when I try to put it up. I pulled the motor and the metal outside gear looks ok but thats all i know for now. Any suggestions?
ON EDIT: I can also turn that gear on the motor back and forth by hand, but i can't spin it.
Nah, trust me on this - it isn't the alaignment of the teeth. It's the device inside the motor that finalizes the drive. If you can turn the outside gear, that's a problem. If you got the motor off, shoot, you've got half the work done. (search this site for complete explaination and pix, thanks to steve83) Take the top cover off, (1 keeper ring and thin washer) then put flat screwdriver under top lid and pry upward) you'll see a white plastic cup ring w/teeth on outside. Slide cast alum. center out, and you'll find lots of crumbly ***** of dirty yellow plastic that used to be the bushings that drove the device. Take white cup out, wash w/parts cleaner and blow out, (don't use acetone or lacqer thinner - just a good degreaser) do same for housing, (don't immerse motor in cleaner, of course, just gear/drive end) blow out the long worm gear that drives white cup gear. Replace bushings, ($13. @ NAPA - ask for bushing replacement kit, or less on Ebay) give all moving parts a gob of low-temp grease, button back up and reinstall. (don't forget to grease the long inside worm gear) Grease regulator gears and runs while you're in the door panel. Squirt some teflon lube on channels while you have it opened up.
You won't believe how well it all works now.
Best, and good luck -

Had that problem one time on a different brand of american vehicle. A bolt had fallen out of the window track. I replaced the bolt so the window would track correctly and so far. no problems.
