There are several people on the board who have said that they took their linkage off for various reasons. I don't think it is a safety issue unless you pull out into traffic and want it to down shift automatically, or pass a car. Are you sure that was your problem? Try posting your problem and see what comes up. I bet someone else has had your exact same problem. Good luck!

Ive posted it on several different sites, mainly no answers. I just want it to shift when its suppose to and not burn up my gears. It shifts smooth like no ones business now. 20 then 30-35 instead of 30 then 50 which is DEFIANTLY WRONG.

I am not worried about passing... I can do that with it off lol

Thumbs up down shift rod

I have had a C6 in my truck since 1980 with no down shift rod, if I nail it @ 15to20 it drops to 1st gear. Under normal driving it up shifts @ 8 and 15. Has a 3.50 axle. Kenny

MikeoOoOoO - In March you posted pictures of a shifter rod. Would you still have that part available? I'm looking for one for my 78 Ford F100. Thanks.

I recently had to put it back on turns out its the way the bracket was built on the orginal 2 barrel i had to bend the bracket that has the screw in it to a different angle in order for the kick down to work properly. now there is space for it to throttle and space enough for it to kick down when i mash on the gas.

I made my own shifter linkage out of two rod ends (heim joints) and a piece of 3/8 threaded rod.
total cost $5 maybe. Works great.
