You'll need to stay with the same features you have now, namely the mechanical odometer although its actually an electrical device. Instead of the digital display a small DC voltage stepper motor is driven by the VSS which turns the numbered dials.
'01 F-Series gauge cluster should be somewhat easily adapted to your van. I'd shop eBay for any F-Series cluster with mechanical odometer--typically way less than $100 in VGC, most with some sort of return or warranty problem if DOA.
