Did the main seal

I did the rear main seal with the kit from the stealership and so far no leaks. Everything was pretty smooth, other then smashing my finger between the large chunk of steal known as the block and the hammer I was using... still fricken hurts and is about twice the size as the other.

Anyways, after screwing with that for a bit, I decided to ream the install tool to use the flywheel bolts. That worked beautifully and the seal went right in.

Resealed the pan gasket and the transfer-case and so far, I have no loss of oil, and not a drop of leaking fluid anywhere. Fingers crossed.

Thanks, Kyle

Here are a few pictures, as I know everyone loves pictures!

That thing sits in there pretty far!

looking at how deep it sits in there makes me think that if someone ever has seal problems as a result of shaft wear, you should be able to have the seal out 1/8" from where it is and solve that problem easily

i hope you lubed the sealing lip of that seal when you installed it

I used aviation sealant #3 as per the instruction. It said not to lube anything.

ok, on every seal i've installed in various applications, its advised to lube the lip that rides against the shaft, otherwise the initial break-in period will cause the rubber to be damaged by the shaft. but i would trust the manufacturer if they said not to

I would agree with you, but so far no leaks.

since you have to speak of this seal, i found myself under my van a few minutes ago looking at something else, and noticed that my rear main seal is leaking too. it'll probably wait till next year.

since you posted about yours, mine must be your fault
