That's a good price, btw. One is, of course, the t.cover round seal. The ring thing is supposed to slide over the vibration dampener where it slides into the seal, once the cover with new seal is installed. With high mileage engines the seal will wear a groove in the v.dampener, and that seal give you a new surface minus the groove. I believe they give you a tube of glue too. Use the sleeve. It is cheap insurance against oil leaks.
Now you're at an important part of the assembly. It is really really important to get that cover on EXACTLY centered on the crank. So, clean the gasket surface on cover, and adhere gasket to cover, and let dry. Then use sealer on mating surface of gasket and set cover in place, and finger tighten some of the bolts. Next, lube lip of seal and mating surface of v.dampener, and slide that dude in place. See, you're using the v.d. to center the cover in place. Once that is done, carefully tighten the cover in increments, then you can remove the v.d. and continue assembly.
That will be $10! Good luck. Also, pay major attention when installing your oil pump and gaskets, and the pick up tube and gaskets.
X2 on the thank you. Planning on doing all the gaskets, water pump and oil pump on mine in the near future. Never thought about using the balancer to center the timing cover, good idea.
fordboy300; You can probably rent an installer at the local AutoZone or some other parts store. I've never used one but know your suppose to.
A lot of parts stores have them for rent. Maybe you can get away without using one, although the threads in the crank snout and balancer bolt aren't really designed for snugging up the balancer.
To align the cover you don't need to fully seat the balancer.
I'll see if I could pull it off today, I'll let you guys know what happens although I just checked and the cover looks pretty center to me but I will do the harmonic balancer trick.
The way I centered mine without a tool is to put the timing cover on and put all the bolts in but leave them loose enough to where you can easily wobble the timing cover around. Then, fully seat the balancer by tightening it down. That'll center the timing cover.
Tighten down all the bolts you can get to on the timing cover so they're nice and snug and the cover can't move.
Now, pull the balancer back off with a puller, and then torque all the bolts on the timing cover to spec.

Did you use the installer tool AB or did you just slide it on by hand and then tightening it with the big old bolt?
