Timing chain cover alignment

Hi all,

I'm re-installing my timing chain cover on my '90 Bronco (with Ford Racing 302 HO) - 2 questions.

Do I need the alignment tool to install the cover? I assume the tool is needed to create a good seal between the cover and the balancer?

Also, I have a new timing cover (with a new seal) - doesn't fit because it's for an Explorer (came with the motor when I ordered it). Should I try removing this seal to put in my old cover (or will I end up screwing it up)?

Thanks,
Budman
