Hey people,
I am having some issues during start some of the time on my 94 Bronco w351W.
the cap and rotor were replaced about 2/3 years ago along with wires and spark plugs. i just replaced the coil and the ignition control module about 2 weeks ago and sometimes after i drive the truck it does not want to start. it doesn't seem like im getting spark cause i pulled a wire with a spark plug and ground the spark ground getting no spark during start up. not sure if its the stator pick up in the distributor. any help would be much appreciated!
Do you have power in general? I.e. door chime, lights.... If not, then check the battery cables/terminals. They are known to rot out internally on our trucks.
But when you turn the key to try and start the truck what happens? Nothing, click, does it crank? After you try to start the truck and nothing happens do you still have power?
the truck turns over fine. have power inside the truck, its a good battery and the alternator was replaced about 4 years ago. starter relay was also replaced on the passenger fender about 4 years ago too. fuel pump runs you can hear it when when you turn the key on.
Have you pulled the cap to see if anything obvious is going wrong? Also check to see if the coil is actually putting out spark. new doesn't always mean good.
Maybe a broken rotor? I think Brett is pointing at the right area, you might be also interested in checking the fuel pressure (it should be around 39 psi) and checking if the engine is actually getting any fuel at all.
