Where on your Excursion driver's side sun visor is your factory equipped Homelink transmitter located. With the visor parked and facing up, is it on the left end or the right end ???
All of mine are like this, on the left side. I added it to one of them and there's only one spot it can go in this style visor. The plastic had a knockout piece behind the fabric for the Homelink box to fit in.
I've seen non-Excursion visors that have them on the other side though.
You about need an owners manual to follow instructions by it. I set mine one time and you need your garage door opener to point to the sunvisior I forget what else one needs to do. But they do work.
Is this unit a self contained unit in the sunvisor with just a hot wire going to it or are other items accoiated with it?
If I got one out of the wrecking yard is the sunvisior all I need.
Basically, yes.
I forget exactly how the OEM wiring was inside the visor, but I just wired mine into the wire for the lighted mirror. I bought a visor from a Navigator (when I went to look at a Navigator steering wheel anyway). The plugs are exactly the same though, but the visor was a little bit different shape. I actually had it in my Ex for a few days, and everything worked fine, but it didn't spring back up to the roof the same because it was a different shape. So that's when I moved that Homelink unit to the Ex visor.
The outer unit with the buttons just pops off and then the box behind should just pop out, once the fabric is off.
