So my brother in law has a 1974 Bronco 4x4 that has had a 351W, dana 60 rear axle, dana 44 front and a four speed transmission that was put in it before he bought it and we cant get a hold of the person he purchased it form, So we need a little help identifying the transmission. The numbers we found on the transmission were C96381 3 AM. His clutch went out and we need to know what transmission it is so we can buy the right parts. I would appreciate any help i can get on this.
Shouldn't need to know what transmission. Just order a clutch for a 74 Bronco with manual transmission. Or order a later model 11" clutch to get a diaphragm type pressure plate.
Is it a truck type 4 speed with a compound low first gear (shifter comes out of the center of floor under dash) or a car 4 speed (shifter offset on drivers side of hump, knee knocker)?
The link I posted previously shows the actual transmissions and gives descriptive info that will help you ID the trans while actually looking at the trans.
At the rear of the transmission below the transfer case adaptor, look for a 4 bolt aluminum cover. If it has one, then it is a NP435. If not, then it is most likely to be a T18.
