This is a personal vehicle of mine. I have an '84 Bronco II that I put a V8 in. It has a C5 transmission that I kept. I changed the bellhousing and TC, added a valve body from a C4 and put it back together. I didn't even have to remove it from the truck, just slid it back while doing the engine change. However, I had only one TC nut on and it wasn't tight, when I first started the engine . . whoops. I immediately heard a banging sound and turned it off. I started it again to hear the sound better. It ran maybe 20 seconds total. It then dawned on me what I had done. I then installed the nuts and tightened them all. I started the engine and the knocking was less, but still there. Its still a loud knock. I tried putting it in gear and had none, it didn't want to move. When I put it back in park the park paw clicked until it finally fell in. Sol . what have I done? What could I have damaged by not having the TC tight?? What could be knocking?? Perhaps I have the wrong tooth count on the TC to input shaft?? I don't think so, but maybe. Could that cause a loud knock ? The trans is a 58K mile original, no problems at before this swap. Help.
Parking paw clicking tells me that the output shaft of the trans was turning when you put it in park. Have you checked the transfer case, it might be between gears or neutral.
Transfer case wasn't fully engaged,. A slight adjustment and that was the problem. Now . still have the knock. The weight on the flexplate appears to be hitting. It had a mark on it. A have used a die grinder and got it so the marks do not show up, but still have a slight know. It goes away after about 30 seconds. Then comes back when I restart . . weird. Ideas?
