I've got a 2002 F-250 4x4 5.4. I think the front driver's side brake is not releasing fully.
Here's what I know: That brake squeals , particularly with light pressure. It stops with harder pressure. With the wheel off, that rotor is difficult to turn by hand. Finally, that wheel produces a lot more brake dust than the other front wheel.
I suspect the pads are not backing off after releasing brake pressure. Does my diagnosis sound right?
As to a cure, I think I'm going to take the brakes apart, clean them up, hit the caliper pins with an emery cloth, then lube everything up and put it back together. Does that sound like the right way to go?
I think you are the right track. Frozen slide pins are very common on these trucks. Cleaning the pins and putting everything back together with high quality brake grease should solve your problem. Just be sure to service your slide pins in the future everytime you touch your brakes.
Here's a link to a tutorial for slide pin service:
Try the easy stuff first. Slide pins are a common issue, Then look into the caliper itself, then look to make sure the brake lines themselves are ok. I have been messing with my brakes for years. Now I just redo the slide pins at least once a year if not twice if I have had to drive into the water to put in docks, boats, etc.....
