Having spent part of its life in Florida, the steering on my '02 Ex squeaked as well when I first got it. Like it was really loud, annoying. I lubed up the big rubber seal on the firewall down in the footwell area, and it quieted it down immediately. I used vaseline at the time, but I think it would have been better to use something non-petroleum. But it hasn't come back, ever. Nice and quiet now.
Mine sounds like it is higher in the column but I will sure try that!
Mine sorta sounds like that too but i'll bet its the seal on the firewall. I've tried spray lube but i will definitely try something more thick like permatex superlube.
I seem to remember that seal was really loud. The clockspring can make noise, but it's generally a sealed unit. My current one makes a little noise when I crank it really fast, but otherwise nothing. The only reason for that is because it's a different clockspring that I got from a Navigator for my Navigator steering wheel, and it was broken when I got it. I don't think I lubed up the ribbon as much as they had before, so I think that's why it makes the noise. But the lube is sufficient for every day turns, it's just those quick palm maneuvers in a parking lot.
There are 2 plastic bushings that the column rides in. One near the top and one lower down below mid point.
You can replace them (there is a thread on here somewhere) or get in there to spray, add lube to quiet them.
Another fix is to turn up the tunes and then you can't hear the squeak.
My Excursion is exhibiting this issue - what kind of lube is recommended that I can pick up at an O'Reilly or Autozone. I understand that I *do not* want to use something like WD-40.
I'm replying to this thread again that I dug up just to say that I sprayed lithium grease into where the steering tube meets the firewall (both in the cabin and in the engine bay) and the squeak is gone. Just got some liquid wrench white lithium grease at the local hardware store.

Yup, that's exactly where my squeak was that I posted about above. Glad that fixed it for you!
