Ford Ring gear Problem (New member)
I will introduce myself shortly,my name is Kristof and I am restoring a Ford f1 truck together with my father.
We ran into a problem the other day,my ring gear (flywheel) has been damaged and I need to find a new one. I live in Belgium and no one knows or sells anything for a ford f1 ,since it is unbelievable rare in my coutry.
I am looking for the 114 tooth ring gear, this is the parts number 8HA-6384
No one has been able to help me,and all the shops I contacted in the USA
can't help me because they have no stock or can no longer deliver me one.
Can someone help me find a new one?
All help would be greatly appreciated!
Greetings Kristof
Welcome to FTE. Have you tried Antique Auto Supply? Antique Auto Supply, Keeping the Old Car Hobby alive for the last 50 years"
What year is you F1? We would also love to see pictures.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to give better info.

I have contacted many stores but that one i missed I will contact them right away.
My ford truck itself is from 1952. For the moment it's in pieces (and I mean until the very last screw!)
I bought it without checking it because it was love at first sight and because it's so rare in my country. I bought it at a good price,it was from someone's legacy (don't know the right word?)
My father restore's truck from WWII and thing his whole life so I am learning alot from him
,when whe started checking we decided to do it all over. The paint was terrible, some places not even painted. Rust, floor was gone, elektrics where a disaster, engine had been abused. (even the wrong sparkplugs, they where so long that they where "chrushed" in with spacers and thing like that. Now where half-way,everything that had damage is being renewed with new items. The most difficult part is over, now where doing the engine and transmission. Everything is in perfect order except a wore down clutch, leaking gaskets, starter that's worn and the ring gear that worn. (They all just stood loose so it all had been damaged.)
So it's coming along steady. We will leave it's karakter as it is (I don't like my cars in showroom condition,I mean no small dings or scratches. I love cars that have history)
Welcome aboard! If you post pics of your truck (in pieces is just fine) -
you might get more attention. You just put them up on the web somewhere & then link to them. Sounds like you are having a good time with your dad - a nice project.
We do have a very active experienced Dutch member - Bjorn - who is fixing up a 1956 F100. He would be a good contact for you to know.

Yes in the netherlands there are a few people with a F100 or F1. What i find strange is that it's the neighboring country and there these trucks are more know while here almost nobody knows them.
I order almost everything from the USA,because IF you find something here the prices are redicioulous. For instance i found 1 item in my country for my truck. Let's say my clutch,we'll the price is around 10 to 15 times more then what i pay when i order from the USA.
Here is a picture from my cabine floor, all new panels welded in (3 mm thick) ,also the firewall (?) has been completely repaired it was completely rotten and held together with ducttape and then just painted over it
. I hate thin metal, like when you step on it that it bends or makes a "klonk" noise. Also already painted (We are doing the truck in olive drab)And afterwards completely treated with a special "saving wax",you spray this onto metal and it becomes a hard layer, like candle wax. You can keep metal in a puddle of water for years without anything happening to it. Completely insensitive to water, only something like Gasoline gets it off.

Also a picture of some parts that had there rustprotection layer. Normally we allready would have done them completely but i first want the engine in perfect condition.

And yes I really like doing this with my father, I am so gratefull that he's doing this with me. Can't wait to drive it.
Also here is picture (sorry for the bad quality) of the ring gear wich shows the damage,it has this damage on almost every place
Nice pics - thanks for posting them! Your floor looks great! We just
welded in flat metal to replace our's - Your's looks better. What motor are you running? I just mentioned the Dutch member because he may already have experience with suppliers that are happy to ship overseas.
You will have the best looking truck in Belgium!

I have a Ford six in line,226
wich I love, this truck will be my daily car. That's why we are moving hell and earth to make everything as perfect as possible. And my father has extensive expierience with 6 in line engines from his WWII trucks. Thank's for the compliment about the floor
, it has to look as good underneath as the outside
Btw my ford originates from Texas !The only thing I am a little less happy about is some minor thing, for instance i have to place an extra light (Fog light) Here in Belgium the car and truck rules are very strict!

As for suppliers I would add Classic Haulers to your list, people that have used them say they are very good to work with. Classic Haulers F-1 Parts - Home
I use their sister company mid fifty.
we do not have any in stock at this time. We are also having difficulty receiving them from our supplier. It has been over a year since we have received this item in stock. I’m sorry we can’t help with this part at this time.
So I don't know if they are going to check after it or not
I'll look for some more pictures to
And thx for the link I will check it out
Yes you can ,I did it recently but it is a bit tricky. You have to heat up the ring gear,so aim you're torch or something on the ring gear and as few possible on the flywheel itself. Then after a while the ring gear expands a teeny tiny bit and then you can gentle tap it off. Same to place a new one, heat it and place it on

(be gentle on the tapping thought when it's heated)
It would help a tremendous amount if i could buy a good one from you or someone here
Advertised for $42.00:

Crap, just called them and they are out of stock. He suggested Dennis Carpenter in NC as they make them there. Another possibility is Job Lot in NY. If those 2 don't have them you may not find one easily.
Good luck.
From Dennis Carpenter for $20.00:

The listing for the ring gear at dennis carpenter is for the 146 teeth, all the 6 cylinder engines except mine

Mailed to joblot so again the waiting game.
I have to say, that it's just my luck to have the ring gear out off them all thats "rare"
And I must say, that i find it strange that no one seems to have these. There have to be other people than me needing this I would think .
