I'm looking to upgrade my turbo. Right now I have the stock turbo with a couple of upgrades done to it, IE... non wastegated 1.15 A/R turbine housing, wicked wheel. I am only pushing 4 lbs of boost at 75 mph, I would like to increase my boost a little bit to help with fuel economy, I know if I reduce my A/R I will be increasing drive pressure, I have looked at ATS, BD, Turbonetics, Garrett GTP38r, so on and so forth. Which turbo is going to allow me to accomplish this? I am also upgrading injectors soon also. Truck is a late model 99
What size injectors are we talking about? Any of the afore mentioned turbos, with a 1.0 A/R turbine housing, will accomplish your goal. What influenced you to go with the 1.15 on your current setup?
nothing to wild as far as injectors go, i'm thinking river city diesel 165cc. the 1.15 A/R came with the truck when I purchased it a few months ago.
I like my 38r. Many use it in combination with Stage 1's, such as those. I am not saying that the other turbos won't cut it. They are comparable in size. Everyone has their favorite.
I have been doing a little research and checking on other forums and there are alot of people running the 38r with a batmo compressor wheel and 1.15 A/R housing, saying they are liking that setup, spools faster maintains a good pull all the way through rpms, egt's are cooler, and getting anywhere from 4-6lbs more boost. maybe I will go this route.
