Well me and my friends are going to the drag strip pretty soon. I think i'm going to put my mom's 95 Cougar 4.6L V-8 up against a 2000ish Nissan Maxima, both are automatics. Both of us have never been there before so it should be a lot of fun and a decently close race. I'd race my truck but I don't have it.
I think I'd take something more exciting than a 281 cubic inch Cougar. Even if the other car is a Maxima I'd be betting against you. Good luck and have fun.
Postponed due to rain. The only other thing that I can drive is a 99 Mustang GT but I know the maxima isn't going to beat that. I'm not really worried about losing, I just want the race to be somewhat close and it'll be fun. I've never raced before and he hasn't either, but I have a little more experience than he does.
I take it this is a Test and Tune night, where you can run what you want and however many times.
I say take the Cougar first and get used to running lights and running the track. Most people get the butterflies and real nervous their first times on a track. The Cougar will be fun enough - especially if there is no bracket racing or money involved...
Hopefully I will be able to get back to the track one of these days...
Once you go to the track, you will get bit my the mod, bug.LOL. It happened to me, went there years ago, ran 15sec quarter mile times, several years later its a little faster. Its a blast, we go all the time. Good luck, keep the shiny side up...
I took my 86 Buick Grand National last year to the strip for the first time and I was so nervous. My car was slightly modified and I ran mid 13's. I had street tires and during my first race I was watching my boost gauge to make sure I did not blow the tires that by the time I looked up the other car was a car length a head of me. I was embarassed but it was fun.

She won't be operational for a little while. Before the accident my truck was in the high 16s but I bet it's going to be in the mid to low 17s now. I need that 400hp 5.8L in there haha.
I'm 52 year's old. I drag raced for the first time when I was 14 ( outlaw track) I was nervous as all get out. I;m still drag racing and still nervous as hell, but I believe that it's a good thing. It keep's you on the edge. I now own and drive the second quickest EXP in the world ( Peterson Publishing 2000) I only run the 1/8th mile ( 6.60's@ 104) but after all these year's it's still a rush. I hope that you enjoy yourself and you have no problem's.
