f-250 only starts when I arc the solenoid

I have a 2000 F-250 that won't start. When I turn the key to start, It clicks one time and that's it. If I leave the key in the run position and arc the solenoid, it fires right up.

I have charged and tested the battery.
I have replaced the solenoid (on the fender near battery).
I have replaced the Ignition switch.
I have replaced the Ignition lock cylinder.

The instructions in the new lock cylinder say I need to reprogram the anti- theft computer with a New GENERATION STAR TESTER. My first question is do I? It doesn't seem like there is any "anti theft" security there because I can still arc the solenoid and start it. My second question is do I need to go to the dealer for this? My third question is what else could it be? I'm getting a little frustrated with it....

Check your neutral safety switch

If manual, it will be on top of clutch pedal. When pedal is depressed, it completes the starting circuit to allow truck to start. You can use a jumper wire to see if the switch is bad

If auto, you'll have a switch on trans that senses park or neutral. Sorry, but I don't know where it is in these trucks. Hopefully somone can help on that

My old 94 F-150 did this. The solenoid on fender died and the clutch switch at same time. Sure can be frustrating

Thanks for the reply's. The truck has an automatic trans. I'll check the nuetral safety switch and see if that gets me anywhere.

This rig is one issue after another! In the last year I've put in a new motor and a new trans!

A 2000 Super-Duty won't have PATS.

We need to know WHAT clicks. If it's the starter motor relay, there's nothing wrong with the ignition switch or the sensor/switch on the transmission.

I don't know exactly what the source of the click is, but it sounds like it coming from around the firewall. Ill check again this morning. Where is the starter motor relay located?

My 94 f150 did the exact same thing after I bought it. Problem was finally tracked to a corroded ground for the fender mounted starter solenoid. On the older truck, the ground was on the fender just a few inches from the solenoid.
