I don't know what was going on but I had my mechanic check the truck out today and he also tested it with his scanner. No codes and no issues. I have driven the truck about 60 miles since I reset the codes and have not had any more problems. Is it possible it was just in regen?

I am thinking it was EGR related to tell you the truth. Based upon the chain of events...or a stuck injector that cleared itself.

I think at this point i'd run a a good fuel injector cleaner through it and call it a day.

Ensure you use right stuff for 2008 ulsd compliant diesel motors. Diesel Kleen is what I would use.

I filled up and ran the Diesel Kleen. The truck is running still running perfect after about 100 miles now. I'm wondering if my short commute to work through the week is killing me. I have about a 12 mile round trip and speeds are 25-40 MPH. I do tow about 6000-10000 but only about once a month. Would I benefit from driving in tow/haul for my work commute or am I just wasting fuel?

Yes your commute is killing you. Using tow/haul while in regen may help but not otherwise

I'm pretty sure he's tuned, just doesn't have a tuner hooked up. So, the commute shouldn't bother anything as you are not having regens or partial regens. I would suggest you should use diesel Kleen or some other fuel treatment with every fill up. As I understand it the ULSD lacks lubricity (i guess i spelled that right) and the DK makes up for that and also keeps everything clean. I put 16 oz in with every fillup (50 gal or so) and have since 4000 miles. I'm just under 50,000 with no problems whatsoever.

Correct. The truck has a spartan tune, 150 supposedly. The seller had sold the tuner seperatly before i purchased the truck. I am now considering buying the minimaxx since I bought the truck without a tuner and don't really know what it's set at.

All spartan tunes under 275 keep the egr system operable. It sounds like you had an egr valve hang open. Driving habits have a lot to do with it.
