Hello everyone, I have never posted before but always turn to this site for good advise and solutions... I bought an 08 F250 (6.4) about 3 monts ago. It has 66K on it and has a Spartan tune with DPF/CAT delete. Yesterday I was driving home from work and all of the sudden I lost power and could hardly keep the engine running and my check engine light came on. I pulled over and checked all that I could in the parking lot, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I limped the truck home (blowing black smoke the entire time) and started checking it out. All my fluid levels are good but it is idling very rough and blowing white smoke. I attempted to remove the EGR valve, until I realized I needed a special tool to remove it. It is acting like my EGR valve is stuck wide open, but I can't verify. I then strated it this morning and couldn't keep it running. It's idling very very rough and when I put it in drive it sounded like it was "knocking" and now blowing even more white smoke. Any suggestions?
I don't have the dashdaq. The truck is still tuned, but he sold the dashdaq seperately, before I bought the truck. My mechanic at work said he could read the code for me tomorrow, but I'm without a vehicle until then...
No loss of coolant. All fluid levels are fine. I'm hoping it's not head gaskets, and just something with the EGR. I thought about bypassing the EGR valve and then buying another tuner so I can program the EGR delete. I was just saving the money for a tuner since the truck is already tuned, but sounds like I might have to just get it now. I have not checked the EGR cooler...
Not really. If you are not eating coolant then I would be looking at an over fueling condition. Maybe a failure on the horizon for the HPFP or injectors
I now have the codes. P1335, P0405, and P0404. I will try to look these up but now I have to figure out if one of the codes is beause I unplugged the EGR valve last night to try and remove it.
P0404 X
Exhaust Gas Recirculation
Control Circuit Range/
Performance
This error is set when the deviation in EGR
position is outside the threshold. 10 percent of full range error >5 sec System error, EGR valve, PCM
P0405 X X X Exhaust Gas Recirculation
Sensor A Circuit Low
This error occurs when the EGR position voltage is below the
specified voltage for a predetermined amount of time. This
error can indicate either a short to ground or an open circuit.
0.24v <3 sec Wiring, EGR valve
assembley, PCM
P1335 X X X EGR Position Sensor Minimum/
Maximum Stop Performance
This error occurs when voltage of the EGR valve
falls below the minimum threshold. 1.3v >2.5sec Wiring, EGR valve
assembly,PCM
Bascially all the above deal with the EGR. Plug it back in and clear the codes, see what you get. Then check for codes again...or have you ruined the EGR valve and now need the valve and housing?
I only removed all the bolts and hoses, then realized I couldn't remove it without the tool, so I put everything back together. I just cleared all the codes. Should I just idle or go on a test drive? I read the codes again after resetting them and have none, but haven't driven it yet.
I sat idle for a couple minutes, no codes... I then drove it around the block, still no codes. It seemed to run normal except for the fact that I am blowing way more black smoke than normal. Any suggestions from here?
The tail pipe wasn't wet at all. I did notice very little white smoke then lots of black smoke. It does smell a little, possibly like coolant or diesel. I have never felt a regen as I bought the truck already tuned, I just didn't ge the tuner with it. He said it was the Spartan 150 tune. Are those symptoms normal during regen? I just assumed since it was deleted and tuned, it wouldn't go into regen.
