Ive got a 2000 expy 5.4 4wd and I was just wondering if anyone's ran a dome interrupter switch for when the doors open? The light wakes my 3 month old up when the wife and I try to smoke before getting her out. Just a thought.
Nope, that just dims the dash lights down and all the way up turn the on with the doors closed. I'm talking about running a switch to interrupt the current to the lights when the doors open.
That's what I was getting at - the selector wheel has a click over at the end of it's travel (below dim) to keep the lights off with the doors open. Maybe it wasn't in all years, but my '99 had it as do my 03 and 04. You should stop smoking anyway, your kid needs you around in 50 years.
Scanning the owners manuals it looks like as your luck would have it, you have the only year without mention of it in the manual. Here is what it says for 1999 and 2001;
PANEL DIMMER CONTROL
Use to adjust the brightness of the
instrument panel during headlamp
and parklamp operation.
• Rotate up to brighten.
• Rotate down to dim.
• Rotate to full up position (past
detent) to turn on interior lamps.
• Rotate to full down position (past
detent) to turn off interior lamps.
Still worth checking, maybe the poor kid who proof read the manual got it wrong. I'd bet you could just buy the switch from either of those years and you'd be good to go.
