Hey guys, so I'm in the process of setting the c6 in the truck, and it doesn't seem to be lining up correctly on the cross member. It sets in between both lateral sets of holes, and in between both fore and aft sets of holes? we've tried flipping the tranny mount both directions with no real change of position. I've got the cross member with the words "c6 front" towards the front of the frame, and its obvious that If I flipped it the other say it wouldn't be anywhere near lined up. What am I missing here?
Are the engine mounts tightened down? Can you loosen them and get things to shift? Obviously you don't want things to be in tension when you are done, but the rubber mounts do have quite a bit of give.
Well Gary, I'm still stumped. I loosened the motor mounts almost all the way, and even disconnected the tranny cross member from the frame. With the cross member loosely bolted to the tranny, I put it back on the frame. In order to get the cross member bolted, it had to bend the tranny mount bolts maybe 30 degrees. So they are laterally set now, just fore and aft is still off. It sits EXACTLY in the middle of the fore and aft slots. Should I just cut out that little divider and make those two sets of slots one? Should the tranny be shimmed some how that I'm missing? Right now it sets flush against the motor.
Tried it, even though the mount appears to be 100% symmetrical. I even flipped the cross member around to make sure the shop didn't give me a c4 back. I'd flip the motor mounts around, but they are the same part number on both sides, so that wouldn't do anything.
What year is this tranny? Where did you get it from? What set of holes are you in on the frame? There is another set of holes on the lower lip of the "C" of the frame. I know if you move this your upper short mounts on each side won't line up, but you may have the wrong set of upper wing mounts.
That's what I found when I swapped out a c6 for a zf. The lower crossmember was the same, I just had to move it back to the other set of holes in the frame, and then use the upper crossmembers from the zf truck. They had more offset to make it all work.
Franklin, its an '82 c6 and 302, both came from my truck. I did check for a different set of holes on the frame, but there was only 1 set. If I flipped the brackets that have 3 bolts each, 2 on the upper side of the frame and 1 on the cross member, than the cross member it self doesn't line up on the frame
However, this is a new to me 4x2 frame and a 4x4 c6
Is there by any chance a part number on the crossmember? I ran into that using a 1994 F350 crossmember in my 86 with a 90 E4OD. The bolt holes were a different spacing side to side on the 94, apparently Ford went metric on the spacing.

We (at least I do) need a short summary of what you are doing. You are taking a 4x4 c6 equipped truck, and installing everything in a 4x2 frame because your old 4x4 truck had a bad frame?
Franklin, maybe it's either the later frames, or bigger chassis frames, but my truck had two sets of holes in the lower side of the frame rails and the gusset plates are skewed so by reversing which side they're on you can use either location. When I put the E4OD in, I had to drill new holes 7" further back for it. The 90 parts truck had 3 sets of lower holes and two sets of upper holes.
