Has anyone noticed the new HFCM fuel filters are different? The one I just removed is almost flush opposite the cap the new one has a nipple with a brown o-oring on it
I read this and it reminded me that I goofed today and forgot to lube that little o-ring when I installed it...it went on pretty tightly, more than normal. If I start having problems, I will know that bugger got kinked. Started right up though so I might have skipped by ok.
yep guys. i been noticing for a while now tat ford updated the new design, and the obvious thing is tat o-ring. as long as it works like it's supposed to, i got no complaints.
The key is the "white Aqua-Block" mesh around the paper filter media (as pictured in the prior posts). This is what's makes this is an OEM filter versus a non-OEM filter.
This filter design was made designed by and made by Racor (not Ford) and they are the designers of the HFCM housing... so that is why only these filters fit properly.
Filters made by Racor, Int'l, Ford and licenced by a few others (made by Racor) will fit properly. WIX brand will not... so regardless of what other companies claim... do not use them.
yeah i love how they just throw out updated parts. it is good if it is better but when you get the new part and it doesn't match the one you took out, it makes you wonder. then the instructions state to snap the filter into the cap ,and when i read posts on here i keep reading to put it in the housing then put the cap on, i snapped mine into the cap per the instructions tightned it down to 18ftlbs and cycled the ket 4 times until my fuel pressure gauge read 65psi and it started right up. i also noticed when i went to grab my 36mm socket and torque wrench that the oil filter cap and the hfcm cap are identical in size and every other aspect except for the internal part that the filter snaps into seems a little different, so for future reference, if anyone wants to see if someone has a factory oil filter cap have them match it to their hfcm cap they should match
FWIW. if you guys use diesel kleen, make sure you get everybit of the foil off the top of the bottle before you dump it into your fuel tank, i found tiny bits of what looks to be chewed up bits that went through my fuel pump , d'oh!
The new filters were introduced 2-3 years ago. It's taken some time for the old inventory to be purged. Last time I bought filters from DFO (about 9 months ago) was the first time I couldn't get the old style filters.
There is nothing wrong in using the old style fuel filter. The new style was developed in case the fuel filter got heavily clogged and under high pressure there could be some unfiltered fuel could get by the gasket.
If you change the fuel filters as required and on time using the old model filters should be no problem... but the new model has been out for a while and should be all that is now available?
Some of us had a supply of the old style and if you change your filters every 15,000 miles or sooner as required, you will be fine.
anyone have interest in a new set of international filters I have leftover from my 6.0? pm me & make me an offer. They are useless to me . I also have the snap-on flip socket if interested.
