Riddle me this one.
I was driving up a short hill. My 04 350 with a 6.0( thats why im posting here) Was running well so i decided to tickle the carb with my big toe. About 20 seconds in all i could smell was coolant. Let off the gas, drove another ten mins to my jobsite, opened the hood expecting to find a missing degas cap. It was there, bone dry but the front of everything was wet. Even the front of the fan blades. Just the front of everything and underside of the hood. No temp spike(stock guage) or loss of power, smoke or anything. looked everywhere i could think of and no sign of leakage. Put in about three quarts of water to top her off and drove home about 35 mins highway with no problems. Anyone have any idea what could cause this? Thanks for any advice!
Well it looks like it's time for some gauges like the Edge CTS or the ScangaugeII and a new cap. 9C3Z-8101-B Degas Bottle Cap and maybe a coolant flush.

Bet you'll find that the coolant vs oil temps are beyond the recommended 15* spread.... means you'll be (or have someone) doing a engine oil cooler/egr cooler replacement as well as head gaskets. If you have to have that done, have studs installed as well.
Dont be shy people. I wont bite. What do you think. Im stuck, thinking i may have blown a seal in the waterpump. Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.
Check all hoses, around hose clamps, and especially line to heater core off water pump. If it is a pump seal it's going to be very hard to see. You say you only lost 3 quarts? Radiator intact, still leaking after it sits. The headers are plastic, could have a small split in it up high. It is possible the heads lifting slightly and instead of coolant in oil and vice versa, the EGR cooler didn't fail but it's back pressure caused a coolant system failure. So the whole repair may still be necessary.
Radiator appears intact. It may be a litttle wet at the inside seam. As soon as me sgII gets here a will make a few more hill climbs and find out. All the hoses and clamps are good. thanks
