I check how it turns before I do anything, and yes I'm going to the left. I'm getting ready for my next set of beers, and waiting until I have more off days and also a torch to heat the bolts up. One of the bolts is starting to strip on the head so my wrenches are just slipping.
Well just a update, the bolts never came off, so I looked up in the sky and it looked like it was going to rain, so I decided to start put things back. I had drained out about 5 gallons from the radiator, that way I could move/remove the degass bottle while I worked and gave me more room. The drained coolent got contaminated mainly since my next door neighboor had there lawn serive people come out today, and they didn't care what I was doing and they started to mow the lawn, and grass shavings got into my bucket.
I went ahead and drained the rest of the radiator, I was about to driain the block when it started to dizzle, so I had to hurry up and rain what I could this way i could start refilling. I put everything back including the FICM and hoses and all, refilled her with filter water to help flush/push stuff around including my coolent filter. Started her up and everything looked fine, she started to smoke a little, but after I looked in the area, it was just from the WD-40, PB blaster and Liquid Wrench to get the bolts off, so finally after about 3 hrs she finally stopped smoking.
I'm still looking for some way to take the bolts off so hopefully next week when I also do my oil & filter I can take the turbo out and clean it out and check the surrouding area before I put stuff back.
Tomorrow I'll be draining the radiator & block a few times, and flush a few times with regular hot water then with distilled water, then head to Ford to get my last couple of gallons of coolent and refill to the 50/50 mix, and before I put the 50/50 mix in I'll be putting a new coolent filter on.
I know this isn't the way to drain and all but since I have to work Saturday I need to get stuff done.
Does anyone know any type of socket or wrench that might work with soon to rounded bolt heads, well I'll also have to head back to Ford to get the package with new o-rings bolts and all.
That's what I was using and the rear bolt I worked at times while drinking my beer, the bolt below the VGT was gone so I didn't have to worry about that one, the main bolt that has started to round off was the bolt on the other side. At times I would have the socket in and start to loosen when the socket would pop off and a few times I watched carefully and I saw the bolt was starting to flatten.
I'm using my Craftsman mechanic tool set which has just about everything a mechanic needs. I'll be going to a couple of places tomorrow since i still have the day off and look a sockets that could help take rounded bolts off. I really don't want to use a propane torch especially in that location since it's right by the FICM wire harness and other wire harness in the way.
Hopefully I can fine something that could help get these bolts off, I'd really like to get some power back from her, since I've seen signs and gotten the code on my CTS for underboost which is a good sign the turbo needs to be checked, also within the next few weeks I'll be getting a new EGR valve since I've also seen the EGR valve codes.
Sorry for your troubles man, I hope once you get that bolt out the turbo pops right out of the ped, I have had to fight getting them to break out of that damn thing before, no fun.
Don't worry about that bolt missing, Ive seen plenty of 6.0s with them missing.
As far as your bolt situation, I usually used a 10MM wrench on that bolt, your probably not getting that bolt dead on/straight with the ratchet and the adapters, thats causing it to round off, I would try a wrench and give it one hell of a good pull and it should go.
I LOVE PB blaster is usually works on almost anything, dont be scared to really soak the hell out of that bolt.
Jon the way i got my back bolt out goes like this a 6point 10 get on there then i got a piece of 1/2 conduit about 2feet long cut a notch in one end where it fits around the open end of the wrench then hit with a small fu=king hammer acts like a impact popped mine lose first hit . as long as the bolts not fu=ked up it worked
Use a 3/8" drive ratchet with 6" extension and normal well socket for the back bolt. Everybody complains about the back one but I think it was actually the easiest for me.
That Back Bolt was a MotherF!$#% for me I sprayed with PB Blaster the Works It stripped in the End
I was using a socket and Ratchet and that stripped iteven a 6 point socket
Lesson Learned use a 6 point wrench to break them free

All my bolts were installed Dry and then there is so much Heat in that area from the Exhaust pipes it Cooks them in GOOD
IMO your best bet here is to use a 6 point wrench to break those turbo bolts Loose
Although it sounds like the threads on one of your Bolts is Just about stripped so I know some have took a Mig welder and actually Tacked a socket to the Flare head on the Bolt.
If you have No Welder to do that trick then go to Sears and they sell a Stripped Bolt remover. So Take a Bolt with the Metal Round spacer peice to Sears and get the Bolt Extractor that goes firmly over the bolthead and sleave.
DO NOT get the Bolt Extractor that fits the Head of the Bolt as it will Bottom out on the Bolt Head where it is flared
IIRC its like a 17,18,19 mm extractor that will go over ALL of it
I got Really Luckey and stripped the Back Bolt what a PIA My truck will NEVER have a Back turbo bolt installed again
Then when you install the turbo with New Bolts get a GOOD Coat of antiseize on the threads and I only snugged them up
If only the front one stripped thats not to bad but the Backone is a PIA
Make sure you have a GOOD 6 point 10mm socket! These bolts can be tough to get out. Aero Kroil works wonders if you can find some. I have success with the back one by taking the downpipe loose under the truck and sliding it out of the way. Gives you a lot more room to work with on the back bolt. I recommend atleast a 3/8 drive because I have broken my share of 1/4 stuff on these bolts.
