I'm doing an egr delete on my 04. Everything was going fine till I got to the last bolt holding the turbo to the pedestal(the one facing the firewall). It is completely stuck & the head is rounded off from my attempts to extract it. I tried heating it with a butane torch, but no dice. Anyone have any ideas to get it out short of drilling it out or cutting it off? I've got the down pipe off, so there's a little room to work back there, but I can't get my dremel with cutoff wheel to it, & don't have a cutting torch.
Just tried that set. The 10 & 11mm ones just took more metal off the bolt head. Watched one of Ron's videos & he says you need a 17 to go over the flange & spacer. Will try that next. Where are the bolts for the pedestal? I looked & thought there was at least 1 that you couldn't get to with the turbo on.
When I put a new turbo on my '03 I sort of forgot to put that bolt in.
Is you bolt horizontal or vertical.
Edit, just check my tool box and it looks like I bought the Craftsman kit a few years ago when I did the turbo JIC.
That's exactly what I was about to ask - most of the pics of the 6.0 pedestal have the back bolt going into it vertically, but mine has all the bolts horizontally; WTF?
The original design had the rear bolt horizontal, and uses the popular sounding turbo. It can be an interesting bolt to get loose, which is why a have a longer handled 1/4" drive ratchet with a handle flat on the pressure side. Six point socket always. I think I remember using a prybar as a lever to get enough force.
I think on my old motor I ended up putting Kroll on it overnight before trying again. It's been more then a decade since I had the broblem getting that bolt out so details have faded.
But you've got a bigger issue with the hex rounded. I didn't get to that point.
