ok guys i got my turbo to install on my 99 which my old one whent to **** so i go and think ok 35mins to take off id say an hr to go back no it took me 2hrs and i couldnt seem to get the up pipe to go on the exhaust on the turbo how do you guys do it i put it on there first then had to pry it so the two bolt holes lined up which im pretty sure messed the two o rings on the pedastol up and now leaks oil like a mo fo so if anyone could help me, bolt turbo down then how do i get the up pipe and exhaust housing to bolt up thanks!!!!
I've never done it but i've read that they keep the up pipes loose to bolt the thing to the turbo and after doing so then tighten the up pipes. I wouldn't think you would have to do this for a new turbo only but someone will tune in shortly. Chet
I've never had problem with up pipes moving out of position upon removal of turbo but down pipe is another story. I put jack under truck/exhaust pipe and use slight pressure to raise downpipe approx. 1/4 inch. Then on top, I stuff rags at the side to hold downpipe against turbo. It would be nice to have 4 hands or another person and you could avoid this. If the alignment is not correct, those clamps are a bear.
yea my turbo had some mean turbo bark i got the exhaust on easy but the up pipe i couldnt get to line up and those bolts on the uppies are nasty and didnt wanna come loose.
I am assuming your not putting a Late 99 turbo on a Early 99 truck???
Otherwise you just have to play with it... Turbo swaps are easy so long as you hit everything with PB Blaster a day or two before. And when I say everything, I mean damn near the whole turbo.
thanks guys since i pryed the whole turbo to line up with the uppies and this morning i took all aprt again the upper o rings on pedastol were not leaking so i took it off and replaced bottom o rings shes good to go!!!! and it lined up prefect! this turbo is a early 99 turbo with the warm up thingy takin out and when i shift gears it barks loud is that why the exhaust back pressure plate delete???
well you know when a trucks pullin like at a truck pull and u let off throttle it barks, well this kinda sounds like that but its coming out the exhaust so i dont think its the turbo pushing air back out the compresser side which isnt good for ue turbo
