Why is welding a nut on unlikely? Mount the ground to the next glowplug over, and then set a nut on top of the broken plug, and fill the whole with weld. If you're good at welding, it will work fine.
Thanks, i aint too bad at welding and i guess im a bit skeptic because of the broken easy out. i tried to break it up with a punch and drill it, but its a big mess now and there is no clear hole where the gp is.
how deep is it sunk in there? if its only 1/8" or so, you should be able to focus your weld on it and not really get into the head. if you're really worried about getting your weld stuck to the head, you might paint a little bit of anti-sieze on the head around your work. it'll burn off as you weld leaving a protective coating of various metals that won't bond to anything.
now would someone please remind me why that tool is called an "easy out" when the name is so deceptive
Yeah, you'll be welding onto the easy out, and maybe the GP as well. In any event, getting the easy out out of there would be a step forward...
I hope you don'e end up having to EDM it out...
easy out is basically tool steel, weld away but it may be brittle so don't hammer on it.
if it were me i would take the pre-cup out and drill into the bottom of the easy out, knock the not so easy out out and drill up to .25"
i would drill no faster than 700 rpm (or somewhere reasonable close to that)
don't try to drill though the easy out, it is made out of the same material as your drill bits.
go easy and slow as i think the gp's are made from tungsten alloy
the gp is 3/8 24 isn't it?
easy outs work great if you use them after you drill a hole that is just a little under the size of the threads. once you drill a hole large enough the threads will cave in and loosen up.
