The a/c blows cold as an ice box but....... After running for ten min i warms up a good bit. I check the freon level and add about 12 oz and it improved a little. When it goes lukewarm, the compressor still cycles normal. what gives?
Is it possible that you your heater valve is open or leaking through adding heat to the coil? The mixing door is stuck open?
When you say after 10 min, is this from a cold start or has the truck been running and the ac gets warm? If it is from a cold start then after 10 min the coolant temp is warmed up and causing the ac to feel warmer. IMO
The heater valve is normally open. It only closes and shuts off coolant flow when the selector **** is at MAX A/C and OFF. Temperature control is achieved through the blend door.
It's unlikely your blend door is moving randomly, so your problem is somewhere else. It might be in the refrigerant loop somewhere. The pump might be failing, or you might have a bad or dirty cycling switch. This is something someone with the right set of gauges is going to have to check.
Another potential problem is a clogged condenser. Check the condenser, and the space between it and the radiator. If you're not getting good air flow through the condenser the compressor can't keep up.
Figured out the problem! I evacuated all the freon and oil replaced the rec/dryer and orfice tube which was mostly clogged with some black oily muck.I flushed all the lines and evap and condenser. I vacuumed the system down for an hour ( no leaks) charged it back up and the same crap! Two weeks later I decided to take that shim off the a/c clutch like some people had said to do. My thought was how is a shim gonna cause the bad a/c issue. I STAND CORRECTED! Would you believe that fixed it. All day a/c blowing 40deg on 90 plus day. Thanks guys for the help!
