Well my A/C will cool on MAX only! '97 4 banger, 5 speed.
If you put the control on anything but MAX A/C you get HOT air even with full cold.
What I've checked: The mixer valve on the heater hose only gets vacuume to close off hot coolent on MAX A/C, on A/C full cold, no vacuume and full open letting hot coolent to the heater core.
So shouldn't the mixer valve regulate the amount of coolent to the heater core when in normal A/C mode by the temp control **** vacuume input?? Like in normal A/C, full cold on the temp control ****, the valve should be closed and a good vacumme at the line when pulled off.... Right?
Also the door (mixer door??) behind the glove box is closed on MAX A/C but opens on other settings. I belive that to be correct operation.
So I'm leaning to a vacuume leak at the temp control, ya think?
Any help would be apreciated.....Ken00??...... Anyone??
It sounds like you have the blend door problem. I think the door you are refering to is the recirculation door, the one that opens only in max ac and allows passenger compartment air into the system. The coolant flow valve is working properly, it only truns off coolant in max ac, thats why you get the cool air in that position only. There is a good link in the tech info post on repairing the blend door, to replace it requires dash removal which is a 6-8 hour job, $$$$.
Thanks Ken, I worked the issue tonight and found that all the position valves are working and the blend door has power and I can feel the motor move (humm) when the temp control is turned.
I guess it is a mechanical part on the door thats let go, I'll look in the tech area again and see what I can find.
