I'll be installing a Lockpic this weekend and was bummed to find out it won't support multiple cameras with the factory nav unit. I'm going to try and provide the option to use one of four cameras depending on the truck/trailer configuration.
I'll be towing a horse trailer and sometimes will have a camper in the bed so no tailgate installed. The plan is to only power one camera at at time and have all the video out's connected. There will be two switches (water proof, SPDT) mounted in the vicinity of the hitch. One will disable the factory tailgate and to be installed License plate cameras when the trailer is attached. The other will select between those two cameras when the trailer isn't there. I'll use an upfitter to energize the relay that will select between the license plate camera on the trailer and one mounted inside (so I can see the horses).
I've attached a pdf with the layout and would appreciate any thoughts you all might have. Will it work?

That was how my friend got his forward facing camera to work...he saw in the scematics that the rear facing camera always had a signal. Stopping that signal allows him to use the forward facing camera. It makes me wonder why Lockpick cannot do the same thing and offer it to people. That or maybe have a splitter and some software to be able to see multiple cameras at the same time. I was thinking about a pot style switch that you could rotate to select which camera you want to view...as long as it interrupts the rear facing camera it should work. That might be better than using up all the switches in the truck.
Having horses It is always good to see how things are going back there.
Anytime now there will be people saying it can't be done with a factory rear facing camera.

I think what most of us were saying was that the folks at Lockpick were insisting that it can't be done.
I have never believed that even a little, but lack the expertise to figure out the right way to do it. I'm hopeful that this works as I'l love to put a cam on the front (for close turns and parking), one inside the horse trailer, and one on the back of the trailer and be able to switch between them.
While drifting off to sleep last night I realized I can use the other set of contacts on the relay (it's a DPDT) to also switch between tailgate and truck license plate cams. That will eliminate one of the two switches out back. Hopefully the lockpic arrives in time so I can work it this weekend.

Where I can agree that in the original configuration it does not work...I have SEEN it work and it just baffles me how the company cannot figure it out. The main issue on whether it will work or not in the stock configuration is that the rear camera is always getting the signal. At the time when he showed it to me I didn't think I would be explaining it on the forum. (I was hoping HE would come on the board to explain it)
I am not sure if a rotary style potentiometer would work in this case or not.
A potentiometer would not work since it's function is to vary resistance. You'd need to use a rotary switch with the main pole tied to +12 VDC and a camera tied to each of the output poles. This would work: 2-Pole, 6-Position Rotary Switch - RadioShack.com

That was what I was thinking about, that would sure be easier than using a bunch of uplifter switches.
Anyone know a source for the truck end of the cable going from the truck to the tailgate for the camera? I'd like to leave the cable ends stock and have a spare tailgate cable. Want to convert it into a jumper in between the existing tailgate cable and the truck cable.
