According to Rocky's sticky, code P0344 is: CMP: Camshaft Position. Indicates camshaft position.
My truck is running great except for this code. The only thing I've noticed is a drop in RPM when it goes to idle but it returns to normal right away. I just thought it was the tuning, which it might be. What do you guys think, could it be my CPS? I replaced it last year with the one with the purple O ring.
I'm on a quick trip with my 5er to Phoenix and will return back home 200 miles Friday. I'm going to take out my Beans chip and put my TW chip back in and see if that makes a difference.
If I were you I'd clear the code and check for them when you get home. Make sure you have a spare before you head home (I'm sure you do.) If its there again, or even if its not, I'd get another cps like you have and put it in and keep yours for another spare. Can't hurt to do the wiggle test with the wires too.
I wouldn't think it would be the chip, but I'm no expert either..
I have a couple of CPS spares in the bottom of my tool box. I'll be curious to see if the TW chip sets it going home, that is, if its the chip at all. I'm hoping its just a fluke! I wonder what the M stands for in the CMP when you read the code?

This is what you are asking for?:
CMP= camshaft position sensor = CAM = CPS/crankshaft position sensor
Excellent point Mike, no I didn't even check codes after the HPOP install. If the light isn't on I don't even think about it. I should reprogram my thinking, lol.
Thanks Jose, I can ask some dumb questions sometimes!
Jim, I just like the shift points in my tow mode so I use it all the time. Today I will try drive and economy to see if the idle drops a little. Thanks for the explanation.
Just a side note, first time ever I got 17mpg running around town, some freeway, some city driving. I was shocked when I filled up. Maybe the PCM is conplaining that I'm starving the motor of fuel, LOL.
About 50 miles around town and no codes. All positions on the chip do the 100 rpm drop coming to a stop then immediately back to normal rpm's. Tomorrow I'll put in the TW chip and see if that chip does the same thing. Friday 200 miles home pulling the 5th wheel and I'll know about any more codes.
On a side note Travis & Joey wanted me to run the TW chip to see if the P1211 comes back with my new T500.
Today running around Phoenix with the TW chip in I didn't set any codes. The idle when coming to a stop did NOT drop 100 rpm then come back to normal?! Must be something in Beans tunes.
Its fun having two chips to compare with each other. I can keep sending them in for reburns and still have one on hand to use. The one thing I did notice about TW is its really touchy talking off, wants to jump out of the gate so to speak. I had forgot that or didn't know any better before trying Beans chip. I feel Tony's chip has more power built into it then Beans.
Half way home today I wasn't tripping a code. On one hill I just let the cruise go for it to see what would happen. My EGT's were up to 1,400 and climbing and on came the light, P1211. I did that same thing with Beans chip and didn't trip P1211. The code I started this thread with didn't come on, P0344. Mike was right I'm sure, It was probably there after the T500 install and all the cranking and I didn't check it.
It was interesting also today, there was one stretch of interstate that was a steady climb for miles and miles. My EGT gauge was on 1250, DC% was 50, PW 1.8 and ICP was 3,000 to 3,200. As my scan gauge scaned they all stayed in that range for miles. Never seen that before. In other words, the conditions were just right that I was running maxed out but EGT's didn't go to high. I'm usually backing off because of EGT's. Nobody can say I baby my PSD, LOL!!!
