broken starter bolts

I recently purchased a 98 a manual 2wd 4.2 V6. The starter went out on it. Of course, when I thought I could simply remove it the bottom starter bolt broke. I quit immediately that day a little frustrated. Well today I had someone helping me and we began to work on the top bolt. The tap came off, but the actual bolt wouldn't budge. The bolt rounded off. I'm going to see what the mechanic says tomorrow, but I am wondering if there is anything I could do instead. I really could keep the extra money.

Use a torch and heat the bolt shaft red, then let it cool.
This should expand the bolt shaft from heating and break the bond when it cools down.
Good luck.
