Do Not Service Tag On E40d

What is this orange tag for? It mentions something about the E40D exchange program and says DO NOT SERVICE on it? Someone explain this further. Thanks!

Do Not Service Tag On E40d

The transmission plants frequently do quality audits. They put these tags on transmissions for a certain period of time. If any of the tagged transmissions come into a dealer for service within a certain time period the dealers must call in to Ford before performing any service on those units.

Usually Ford will have the dealer perform a diagnosis. If it looks like it is internal the transmission is exchanged for a new unit. The old unit is sent back to the plant for a teardown.

This is done for a quick indication of potential problems.
