Anyone into lock picking?

Yeah, yeah, I know what ya thinking but this is non-criminal lock picking. I was looking into buying some lock picks but I don't want to spend to much on it. I know you can use misc. items such as paperclips but yeah...

Anyone into lock picking or tried it?

I have done it a few times and have most of the picks for cars. But it is an aquired skill. Believe me the crap you see on t.v. aint gonna happen. you have to practice alot to get the feel for it. I got my 2 sets from MAC Tools. They work good if you know what to do with it but it is not for novices. As for paper clips like I said don't believe what you see on t.v. good luck.

I have been dabbling it for a while..

It's a challenge..

It does take a little skill to get the feel of it..

I bought a small set that wasn't to expensive.. Can't remember the name of the place..

There are many that sell them..

I even bought the shims for opening padlocks

Like these Padlock Shims - SPS-20

I found out online how to open up briefcases and they are pretty easy...

It is an interesting hobby..

I have been trying off and on to perfect a way to read combination locks once they are open..

Haven't gotten into safe cracking yet..

I can pick locks fairly well.
They only QUICK advice I can give you is: When picking the actual core...start on the far pins and keep a little tension on the core to hold the "" up/in place
a kit like this works the best on 7 barrels or les :

Also you can make a "BUMP or THUMP key (can find how to make on google, I'm sure):
I am clueless on the tight combo locks
I like a good challenge!

I once downloaded and read a lengthy guide from MIT. Apparently it is (was?) quite the pastime there--picking locks allowed adventurous students to explore the many tunnels that run under the campus. The guide had a lot of good info on how locks work (helpful to know if you want to pick them) and how to make your own tools. I never bothered with it, though. Like others said, it takes lots and lots of practice. Personally, if I've really needed to get in somewhere, there have usually been ways other than picking the lock to accomplish that.

Possibly BudK? They are just down the road from me. I saw a cheap set for $10 BUT I always remember, "You always get what you pay for".

Here is a nice kit for you.

You will find you will normally use 2-4 favorite picks and rest will collect dust but they are there is you ever want them.
HAPPY PICKING!
