Timing Chain Guide Failure?

I have a 2003 Ford F150 XLT Sport 2 wheel-drive (108,123 miles) with a 4.6 V-8 Triton 2V that has developed a rattling that seems to be coming from the timing chain on passenger side. It runs great, oil pressure great, but rattling is persistent. What should I do? Can someone email me @ tommyray100k@yahoo.com or respond to this thread? Thanks in advance for taking time to respond!

Since Nobody replied, maybe this will help the next guy....

I went to amazon.com and bought timing chain and guide kit for about $215 with shipping. Gasket kit from local parts store under $50. It took me around 6 hours to install new guides, chains, cam gears, and replace applicable gaskets. Ford Dealer wanted to charge $1800 for a repair thats really not that difficult given proper tools and intermediate mechanical skills are readily available. After repairs, I recommend changing coolant and refilling with Motorcraft antifreeze, and change oil using Motorcraft Syn Blend 5w20 and Motorcraft oil filter. My engine runs like a top now! I am going to install 4:10 gears and a cold air intake and throttle spacer next week , then take it to Dynospeed in Memphis to do a custom tune. Hope this post helps someone else out.

Just curious, how did you keep the cams in phase while replacing everything?

Your local Snap-on Dealer

There is a tool designed that bolts the cam in place. You simply remove one of the cam fastening brackets and then install the tool. Additionally, you mark the cams and crank to ensure alignment does not deviate while you are performing the repair.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully, I will never have to use it

Cam movement and losing proper phasing have been a worry on the modular engines.
