Hello everyone I'm 100% new to posting stuff on the site, although I've been reading posts and enjoying the site for well over a year. Anyhow, I have a 79 1/2 ton f150 6 foot stepside bed. I've been working on the truck for about a year and a half. My biggest problem is my bed sides. I've searched high and low for replacement bed sides. Seems like nobody makes these anymore but bed sides up to 72 are made. Does anyone know how much work it would be to use older bedsides or an older stepside bed on my truck and frame ? Any help would be great because ive been pretty frustrated with my results lately.
I think you can use the older sides. The tops are bent at a 45 rather than a 90. I'm not sure where you are but there are some shops that can bend new ones. I know of. Place that will do both for less than $300.
IIRC, flareside bedsides were the same (model for model) all the way back to 1957. Compare PNs for your the application using the LMC or NPD catalogs. However, be aware that there were differences in headpanels and tailgates.
I live in Pittsburgh. I was hoping to keep he bulkhead the same because I believe the pre 72 beds are wider then 73-79. Getting some new sides bent up maybe my best option for new sheet metal.

Mar k. Sells nice front panels and tail gates. I got mine from them
NPD, Dennis Carpenter, etc. told me the beds up to 72 were wider. Anyone have pics of 73-79 trucks with an old style bed on it? I enjoy the slanted bed sides but would like to see how they look. Any pics are appreciated. Thanks guys

I don't think that is right. If it is, why the inside fender wells in the '79? I'm 99.99% sure that is backwards.

They may look the same, but looks can be deceiving.
1957/66 F100 short beds use different bedsides, front panel and tailgate than the F100/250 8' beds, 9' F350 Express beds.
1967/72 F100 short beds use the same bedsides/front panel and tailgate as 1957/66 F100 short beds.
1967/72 F100/350 long beds use different bedsides/front panel.
1973/76 F100/350 short beds use different besides/front panel.
1973/79 F100/350 long beds use different bedsides/front panel.
1977/79 F100/250 short beds use different bedsides/front panel.
B7C-8340700-A (replaced BAAA-8340700-A) .. Tailgate-49 13/16" long = 1953/72 F100 short beds.
D8TZ-8340700-A (replaced B7D-8340700-A & BAAD-8340700-A) .. Tailgate-54 13/16" long = 1953/72 long beds / 1973/79 all beds.
Besides all this jazz, there were TWO different right rear fenders, FOUR different left rear fenders used 1957/72. All 1973/79's used the same fenders, these were also used on many 1957/72's.
MAR-K (mar-k.com) is AFAIK, the only source for repro Flareside beds/bed parts. All the repro parts sellers (DC, LMC, NPD, BOTP and etc) buy from MAR-K.
