Prodigy brake controller
I am very happy with it. I have had it for two years now and have never touched it. I am starting to wonder ... is there any point to adjusting the dial on it?
That little box seems smarter than I am.
I toted the little booklet that came with it around for a while, and even tried to read it once or twice, but it was mostly good as a sleep aid.
Now, I can't even find the little booklet. Is there anything I should know about the thing? Should I ever move that dial?

If it's a P2 the dial adjusts how hard the trailer brakes grab on each setting. You can hit the button to adjust between levels of braking power the dial fine tunes it.

You dial it up tight enough to where you can feel the trailer braking, but not so tight that you are trying to stop your truck with the trailer brakes.
There's also a lever that moves side to side- you can operate the trailer brakes manually with that lever if you want, for a variety of situations-
emergency stopping, settling the trailer down in high-wind situations where the trailer is getting blown around, etc.
You dial it up tight enough to where you can feel the trailer braking, but not so tight that you are trying to stop your truck with the trailer brakes.

Having the ability to change the controller for different trailer weights is what I use the different settings for. Nice to be able to go from a 12' enclosed trailer to a 30' TT and only have to roll a dial.

As your trailer brakes wear & get older u might need to adjust the setting a little bit. I really like that controller ( prodigy ) - So much better than the cheap one that was on my truck when I bot it.

There are 2 or 3 options to set per my memory.
1. you set how many axles you have
2. you set the response time
3. you set the max voltage -meaning the max braking power.
Having equipment trailer I set the first 2 years ago and don't even remember how, but I do adjust braking power all the time.
With empty trailer I set max to 5 as 7 will lock my trailer wheels and make the tires square. For light load I set it to 9-10, while for max 15,000lb I set it to max what shows 12 or 13 depends how alternator behave.
Trailers brakes are important as I experienced 2 days ago when my engine died on the freeway and stopping 28,000 lb set with no power brakes was giving me wet back.
With manual control I was able to stop efficiently with trailer brakes.
