I have a 97 f-150 5 speed 4wd with a older Carbureted 351W in it. i was wondering if its possible to wire the factory tachometer to it? any help would be appreciated, and if so, what wire or wire pin do i need to connect to on the back of the instrument cluster! thanks in advanced . also if it would be possible for the oil press and temp?
I don't know about trying to feed a signal to the dash tach becaue it used a signal from the original PCM that may be different from a simple ignition pickup you now have.
It's cheap to use an aftermarket tach and pick a signal off the ignition.
On oil pressure, use 1/8" niples and a Tee or Ell in the sender port by the oil filter to get your sensor in for an electric gage.
On Temp. put a sensor in a port on the intake.
Suggest electric gages because only 2 leads need to come through the firewall to feed them.
The rest is providing switched 12 volts to the gages and nite lights off the fuse panel..
Good luck.
Thanks a bunch. idk where alot of the factory harnesses and stuff are i have a manual oil pressure gauge and temp it was already installed. i didnt think i could wire up the tach, but thats no biggie, i just wanted the dash to be clean with no gauges hangin around everywhere haha.
Whoever put the motor in my truck did a half assed job with the wiring. im gettin alot of it tidy'd up but its alot of work haha
Good luck with it and let us know how it works out.
Many would like to know what trans was used and any driveline discriptions you may offer, motor mounts, cooling etc.
Best to you.
Honestly everything looks factory accept engine! the motor mounts need changed, they are metal on metal. they have wired an old style starter solinoid i believe, the engine had a bad intake manifold leak and everything is covered in oil n grease, soon as i get it cleaned up il put pictures on here
