Ok, the temp gage on my '91 300 doesn't work. I eventually want to put a factory tach dash in it, but I wanted to test the sender to see if that was bad- I searched the forums for an hour- and looked at my truck for an hour. where the hell is the temp sensor? I found the one with 2 wires, but I'm looking for the one with one wire that runs the gage.
After replaceing the single wire temp sender, go locate a 87'-91' instrament display that includes the tach (& the tripometer if you want),at junk yard (E,F-series,Lariat or bronco) Buy it,unplug your, plug in the one w/ tach and the tach will begin working. w/o any wire adds or mods. Important note: Oil sender units are matched to gage so to increase the chance that the oil gage matches your sender from 33% to 100%, also take the sender. I switched out my tachless I.P. 87' F-150 w/ I.P. w/tach & tripometer from 91' lariat $35. total and 30 day warrenty exchange or refund is pretty standard.
I got to get me a tach dash one of these days. My truck has an aftermarket oil pressure gage, so if the factory one doesn't read right it's no big deal.
