I see that most people go to V codes and B codes or mod B's. Is there any reason I can't just do v codes on the front and RAS in the rear? It should give me a little rake in the rear (from what I gather at least) and help with the sagging rear springs when towing. Any thoughts? Anyone done this instead?
Yes, it's been done. Over the last 8+ years the Excursion suspension has been modified, there have been many different combo's being tried and used.
The whole reason the springs are changed is to fix the problem by eliminating the cause. While the RAS in and of itself is a great product and helps with The Wander, the problematic springs are still present.
That's not to say it won't work (ask Joe, he's very happy with the way he's tackled The Wander) but most people prefer to eliminate the problem, not band-aid it.
Im with Stewart. To me, the RAS seemed like a band aid whereas the springs were the fix. If I recall, the RAS is around $300 and a set of B codes from Ford were a little under $400. Granted, swapping the springs is more work but you plan on doing the fronts and, in my opinion, the rears were easier than the front.
I went with v- codes front, F350 bocks in rear and also RAS...
I really never had much wander at all so decided to go this route.
Always thinking if it didn't workout I would do the mod/ B... In my case I'm happy with the results, could be because I only tow once or twice per year 5k lbs.
Nzirbel, i did the v-ras upgrade & wow what a ride comfort improvement. I never had a wondering problem, and did the ras first. That helped a lot with wheel hop over bumps/turns. There was a nice rake before the front spring upgrade. I only tow a few times a year so it's working good for me...
I did the V and RAS mod. Truck sits level. I tow 9500+ lb TT and it does so very well now. I got a deal on the RAS, like $80 bucks on Ebay. Got the V's from a guy at work $30 bucks. If I find a deal on some B's though I would go with them because I would like to have a little rake to it. Good luck, John
