A friend just bought an 03 f250. It has several new parts on it to include the FICM. We are tearing it down to the block and rebuilding next week. My question is directed toward the FICM. During install of an Edge CTS the truck drastically loses power when the CTS is cycled through the power levels. The CTS is popping a code saying the FICM programming is not compatible. The CTS is showing that voltages are dropping as low as 36 back up to 48. I opened the FICM to find it was a 4 screw not a 7 found on 03/04. Are the FICMs interchangeable and if they are do they require specific software for the year and model they are installed in. When the truck is returned to stock settings voltages still flux telling me the FICM is bad. Lot of info. Any suggestions or next step FICMrepair.com
you are correct. it is a 4 screw reman. we talked to the guy he bought the truck from and he said he mailed off his stock FICM and thought that's what he got back. Apparently not. Its been in the truck now for 6 months. I have been told you can use the 4 screw on an 03/04 but it has to be reprogrammed. I guess my next step is to call FICMrepair and see if I send in a 4 screw if I can get a 7 screw in return or reflash the one we have. Does anyone know what the difference is in the programming? Thanks DLIBSON
The screw count doesn't matter. They just changed the design after a year or two. The flash is the important thing. Take it to ford and ask for a flash. Its cheaper anyway.
The code you're refering to is probably a U0306 which just means the FICM wasn't programmed with the PCM. It really doesn't mean anything and they do NOT have to be programmed together to run just fine. Your FICM problem is voltage.
