Guys going to be needing new tires this summer, I was looking at the Goodyear Duratracs, Nitto Trail Grapplers M/Ts. I went to the Goodyear dealer and they wont install this tire size LT315/70/17D on my 17" factory wheels I have the Aluminum wheels they said that my wheels are to narrow. Also the load rating is D 3195 lbs max load on the Duratracs.
I also was looking at the Nitto Trail Grapplers M/Ts in size LT285/75R17E Max load is also 3195lbs. Would these fit my stock wheels?
Whats the difference it the load is E or D but the Max load is the same 3195lbs?
How are the Nitto Trail Grapplers M/Ts on the highway and snow, the Duratracs are snow rated.
I should mention that my truck is lifted 4".
Thanks for the help and time guys.

How wide are your wheels??? I have 35/12.50/16 Toyo M/Ts on an 8" wide wheel...I highly recommend the Toyo before I purchased I did hours of internet research finding a much higher satisfaction rating than similar tires haven't been disappointed just as advertised mine are wearing down slow , handle great ,they are as quiet a off road tire as you'll find
The 315/70/17 will fit your stock wheel width. I have that size BFG AT on my F150 with the stock wheels. I have 305/70/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on my F250 stock wheels
They will physically fit on your stock rims, but you'll wear the centers out of the tread very rapidly because the tires will have an excessive amount of "hump" in them. 285's are about the most you should run on a 7.5" wheel if you want to get normal tread wear/life. You can get away with 305's if you keep the air pressure as low as safely possible, but that's really pushing it, in my opinion.
I think the bigger issue here is you are wanting to install a load range D tire on a vehicle speced to have load range E tires , If you have a tire failure the dealer will get there you know what handed to them by a good lawyer....
I have had excellent wear out of the BFG's on the stock rims. I have always run the pressure 10lbs. low. The tire shop told me when I replaced them, I had just under 90,000mi. on them. The second set is near 75,000 now and will get through the summer.
As Bigpipes mentioned, the issue probably is the load range being different

Thats why I was thinking on going with the The Nitto Trail Grappler M/T in this size LT285/70R17E. I don't know why Goodyear doesn't make a E rated tire in that size?
Thanks guys.

tap tap hello is this Mic on ? Hahahaha I'm only joking but I seriously think you'll like the Toyos and at a lil over 34"s they'll look nice with that lift
+1 on the Toyo's. I was told when I bought mine that I should expect at least 40K miles out of them. That might not sound like much, but the Goodyear MTRs I had before only lasted 20K miles. I ran BFG All Terrains with good wear, but they just didn't give me the look I was after like the mud terrains do.
I had a set of 315 70 r 17 duratracs on my half ton gas job. I was running a 9" wide wheel though. Excellent tire in snow and ice. Wear wise they did well too , just made sure to stay on top of rotating them.
So I did more research on this....
I really like the Goodyear Duratracs but the size they have is LT285/70/17D....Not carzy about these because there D rated.
The Nitto Trail Grappler M/T in this size LT285/70R17E I really like these but worried about driving on the highway in a rain storm.
The TOYO Open Country MT LT285/75R17E are very hard to find around here the one place that sells them wanted $380 plus installation for them.
So the Duratracks are D-rated but why is the max load the same as the E-rated Nittos 3195LBS???
O ya I mostly use the truck for the highway drive form Illinois to Arizona a few times a year.
Thanks
