another 68 coming home

Could this hole have happened due to bad cab mounts, allowing the cab to settle on the top of the tranny and rub through?
What is the availability of the top tranny cover?
Would JB Weld take care of it or would the lube eventually leak through that too?
How do you remove the shifter? Nevermind...found the thread with instructions
Should the 2WD have a cover like this minus the 4WD shifter hole?
If I put carpet back down, what is the proper layering? I would think the tunnel cover with a seal would go down first and the carpeting over everything. This had the carpeting under the tunnel cover and with the tranny hole and leak, the carpet was soaking up the gear lube and whatever else could reach the edges.
Just one thing to watch out for, they used two different top covers for those trannys, and they will interchange, but you have to switch out the shifter to match it.

Nylon inserts slide off?
The nylon inserts just pop right off, easy as that!

Removed the gas tank and cab bolts from the project truck. My helper was not around and let's just say trying to wrangle a 1/3 full tank by yourself is like trying to walk when you are blind drunk.
Removed all of the bed bolts from the donor truck. The 2 forward most bolts have some sort of sleeve to them but I won't know until I get the box off of the frame. I ordered a bed bolt kit and don't see any sleeves in there. Maybe another PO mod.
I spun a couple fo the square holes and had to cut the bolts off. Is welding in a patch about the only way to go about squaring these up again?
Going to remove the project truck box and donor cab bolts today. Little by little it's moving along.

Sunday
Project Truck - Removed the tailgate, tail lights, bed bolts, cut away the wiring for the camper hook up and old CB, and took off the bumper. We then removed the box. I am glad I won't have to lay on the ground for a while. She is going to get new rear shocks, frame is going to get wire brushed and POR15'd.
Donor Truck - My son removed the seat, gas tank, rear cab bolts, rubber floor mat and rocker panel trim and seat belts.
We still can't get the D@mn! shifter off of the top cover. On the NP435 if I take off the top cover, will the shifter come off with it. I have to replace the top cover anyway and thought I could get a better push on it with the top cover off.
Leaf springs - I guess without tearing them completely apart, I will just wire brush them and POR15 them.
Couldn't get the shifter off by myself so I removed the top cover to take with me to the salvage yard tomorrow.
Is the reverse fork supposed to have a nylon insert on the end of it?
With it being in neutral when I pulled the cover off, do I just line up the holes and drop it down or do I have to make sure something lines up?
